Brushing and flossing are two steps that are critical to maintaining good oral health.

Brush twice daily using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Try to keep the bristles at a 45-degree angle to the teeth and brush gently in short, circular strokes. Be sure to brush both the inner and outer tooth surfaces, as well as the chewing surfaces. Don’t forget to brush your tongue to remove bacteria and help keep breath fresh.

To make brushing more effective we often recommend the use of electric toothbrushes. Models on the market from Sonicare and OralB™ allow brushing of your teeth to be more efficient and easier. Be sure to ask us what we recommend at your next visit.

Flossing is often overlooked, but it is a vital part of your oral health regimen because it helps remove food and plaque that brushing cannot reach. Floss at least once daily. Holding the floss tightly between the thumbs and forefingers, gently move the floss back and forth until it gets in between the teeth. Move the floss up and down along the sides of every tooth forming a letter “C” with the floss around the sides of each tooth. And don’t forget to floss behind your back teeth.
